Today, the world of business is filled with substantial competition and only the best of the best live to enjoy its fruits. Business specialists always insist that the key to success is to remain focused during the course. However, from my assessment, being relevant and creative is the key to higher fortunes. Chris Burch is among the few renowned and celebrated entrepreneurs whose stories support my assessment.
Whenever the name Chris Burch is mentioned, what runs in many people’s mind is fashion and the many deeds he has contributed to the industry (burchcreativecapital.com). However, little is yet to be revealed about his recent move to the hospitality industry. Not long ago, the celebrated fashion mogul launched a five-star hotel on a remote Indonesian island, and it is right to state that the resort is doing well.
It was during his business ventures that Burch met with the hotelier James McBride whom we can say ignited his eye for the hotel and catering industry. The duo set for the Indonesian island where they acquired a beach hostel in 2012. The two spent about $30 million to bring the hostel into life before reopening it as a five-star resort in 2015. A while ago, Burch’s resort, Nihiwatu was named the best hotel in the world by Travel + Leisure for the second year in a row.
During an interview with Business Jet Traveler, the successful fashionista said that he bought the hotel as an investment for his children, as well as a platform to give back to the community. However, the venture thrived more than he had expected. Today, Nihiwatu has turned into a ‘home away from home’ for those looking for a place to freshen their minds. From private spas to surfing, the hotel offers memorable experiences that every visitor lives to recall. The famous resort has 27 private villas each with its plunge pool and a beautiful view of the Indian Ocean. Included is Raja Mendaka, Burch’s private home which can also be accessed by guests. Nihiwatu, mostly termed as ‘The Edge of Wilderness’ has come to the rescue of the Sumba community. The resort has provided job opportunities to the local Sumba community hence improving their livelihood. Besides, a portion of the hotel’s profits is given to the Sumba Foundation, an organization that promotes the local community projects.
