Dr. Saad Saad is a pediatric surgeon who has performed hundreds of surgical operations in four decades he has been in the industry. Dr. Saad has used his experience from the industry to make it better by looking for ways of offering better services to the people. He used his time in the industry looking for better methods of performing surgical operations which would reduce risk and pain to the patient. In his bid to change the industry, he came up with two inventions which made pediatric surgical operations easier. Dr. Saad has a legacy of performing complex surgical operations in his entire four decades. He also served his patients in different parts of the world. Although he was based in the United States, he visited other places to give medic support. He has been to medical missions in the Middle East; especially Jerusalem and west bank. In these medical missions, he would perform complex surgical operations at no charges.
The first invention that he made involved the creation of a device that would track the position of the catheter in the human body. A catheter has a number of applications in surgical operations. They can be used to drain body fluids and gases from the body, to access surgical instruments among other applications. For some reasons, the catheter can be left inside the body.
For a catheter to be positioned in the right place in the body, it needs to be traced to its exact position. Traditionally, the tracking was done through the use of an X-ray signal. The process of using x-ray is, however, not considered good as it exposes the patient to radiations especially if the scans have to be made severally. Alternatively, an MRI machine is used to scan. However, this process can be long since the machine is not large and therefore not portable.
Dr. Saad Saad saw the challenges that were created by the two methods and decided to create a device that will scan the position of the catheter with no machine being used. The catheter is fitted with an electromagnetic device that enables location.
The other innovation which he made was the one involving a suction system for the endoscope. The endoscope is an optical device which is used in examining the internal parts of the body. The device is however interfered with by body fluids. These are fluids which make it hard for the surgeon to examine the area under study. The suction system is supposed to eliminate the fluids from the body with ease.
